“Seriation” is a choose-your-own-adventure story. The artist painted snapshots of 8 life experiences, using colors, figures, and objects to capture the emotion of each experience. On the 9th canvas, a key is provided for the viewer to read the canvases in varying sequences, toying with the notion that the order in which our life experiences occur has significance- it can determine our next step, and can shape our identity. Whether the story begins life peacefully, had later trauma and then grew wise, or began life in isolation, found intimacy, lost it and transcended it all, the viewer can read the canvases in an order that is personal, and reflective. If each of these images captures a moment in one’s life, then there are 40,320 permutations of this story.
